What does Subject-Specific Content mean?<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Subject-specific content is divided into two categories: <strong>Knowledge and Cultural References<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The notion of <strong>Knowledge<\/strong> is divided into three subcategories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Functional Knowledge<\/strong> which refers to language functions (i.e. ability to use families of learning situations: Informing, Expressing and Persuading), as well as convey and interpret the communicative intent. For a full listing of functional knowledge covered in the DBE see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.gouv.qc.ca\/fileadmin\/site_web\/documents\/dpse\/educ_adulte_action_comm\/Prog_English-as-a-second-language_FBD_en.pdf\" class=\"mtli_attachment mtli_pdf\">Program of Study<\/a> p. 42-46.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Linguistic Knowledge<\/strong> which refers to being able to form grammatically correct language through the use of grammar, syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, spelling and punctuation.
